Regional Report 2014 | Monitoring Matrix on Enabling Environment for Civil Society Development

This report summarizes the key findings from 8 country reports in the Western Balkans (Albania, Bosnia and Herzegovina, Croatia, Kosovo, Macedonia, Montenegro, Serbia) and Turkey, and compares its findings with the results of the Monitoring Matrix Regional Report, 2013. The country reports were prepared by BCSDN member organizations.
This Regional Report identifies key common issues across the region, in order to highlight the priorities for intervention at the regional level, and to support efforts of civil society organizations (CSOs), public authorities and the European Union (EU) in the creation of a more conducive environment for civil society.

Experimenting “Bottom-up Europeanization”: EU’s support to civil society development in Enlargement countries

The democratic deficit  and inefficiency of public policy making are  common issues in the global level, which has been widely addressed over time, and that the participation of civil society in policy processes represents the solution to overcome such problems. Civil society as a concept constitutes an important place in the European political and normative debate as well. The role of civil society organizations has come to the forefront of this debate, signified as a remedy to solve the democratic deficit issue. The EU has shown increasing interest in civil society; in 2005- 2006, the EU referred to civil society in respect of the dialogue between societies of enlargement countries and European societies and institutions, enhancing enthusiasm and support for the EU membership in respective states.

opportunities for the youngsters.

IRENA MA Scholarship Programme 2015-2017 in Abu Dhabi

The International Renewable Energy Agency (IRENA) is an intergovernmental organisation dedicated to renewable energy. In accordance with its Statute, IRENA’s objective is to “promote the widespread and increased adoption and the sustainable use of all forms of renewable energy. This concerns all forms of energy produced from renewable sources in a sustainable manner and includes bioenergy, geothermal energy, hydropower, ocean, solar and wind energy. As of December 2012, the membership of IRENA comprised 159 states and the European Union (EU), out of which 103 states and the EU have ratified the Statute.

In an effort to support promising students in their academic development towards a renewable energy career path, the IRENA Scholarship Programme awards up to 20 highly-accomplished applicants annually with scholarships for the Masdar Institute. Applicants for the IRENA Scholarship Programme may choose from any of the eight MSc programmes offered at the Masdar Institute.

LDA Mostar has opened Youth Info Point

On the 26th of May 2015, an Youth information point has been opened at the premises of LDA Mostar, Bosnia and Herzegovina. The Info Point aims to provide information and increase the accessibility of youth towards opportunities within and outside their communities with a special focus on so far disregarded youth groups. Increasing awareness of youth participation as well as the promotion of open dialogue between youth and decision makers are the main focus of this Youth Info Point. Young people will have the opportunity to access information related to education, mobility, capacity building and scholarships, particularly regarding EU educational programs.

'A Common Word Among the Youth’ (ACWAY)

'A Common Word Among the Youth’ (ACWAY) is a global initiative that will be led by young people, of different faiths to build bridges of co-existence by means of dialogue and action.
The programme is fully funded and includes several training courses, international conferences and civic activities to immerse participants in knowledge and action around cultural and religious diversity.
It is expected to be filmed as part of a TV documentary series to be aired on satellite TV for millions of viewers to be inspired and get involved.
