Youth Transformative Potential in the EU Integration Processes and Post-covid-19 Developments in the Western Balkan

The promotion of the “Comparative Study – Youth transformative potential in the EU Integration processes and post-covid-19 developments in the Western Balkan “took place on July 23, 2021, 11.00h, on the Zoom platform.

The research study tried to identify what are the transformational potentials of Western Balkans youth in the EU integration processes and where do these potentials reside, particularly in the light of the COVID-19 crisis. The study wanted to investigate and analyze the key drivers and motivation for youth participation in decision-making processes, and the relationship between that motivation and the perspectives in relation to the EU and its core values.

The study reveals facts connected with youth perception about the EU integration process and the development of the region. The research methodology used by the researcher were focus group interviews and desk research work. A total of 12 focus groups were conducted, 2 in each of the targeted societies, during June and July 2020. The target group was the regional youth, from 18 to 30 years old, with dominantly neutral to positive perception of the EU and with the experience of and/or knowledge about the participation in the decision making, policy design and/or monitoring processes on local or national level.

This activity is in the framework of the project “Regional youth compact for Europe” implemented by the Centar for Democracy Foundation (lead partner), Balkan Network for Local Democracy, CRTA, Youth Act and Sodem. This project is funded by the European Union.
