“Travel the world without leaving the classroom” is the motto of Skype-a-Thon 2016, a Microsoft project in education. The idea behind it is to connect classrooms and teachers all over the world and celebrate global learning, along with using modern technologies. The whole project was to happen on 29th and 30th November and its mission was to travel 3 million miles. On November 30th at 1700 CET we traveled 2001 miles, “we” being the students of Secondary Technical School from Zavidovici, actually members of The English Club, extracurricular classes in English.

Our Skype-a-Thon journey took us to Israel, where our host, Noa Lahav, lectured about Abiogenesis - the Origin of Life, and our students were able to interact and ask questions in real time. The project was initiated by Mrs Sanela Ahmic, an English teacher in this school, but entirely planned and carried out by a senior student of electrical engineering Ramiz Polic. 18 other students eagerly participated in the project. They all shared the same enthusiasm and great satisfaction for having been a part of it.

Ramiz Polić: “I am very glad we had a chance to work on this project. Also I'm proud of the group of students who contributed to the achievement. The very purpose of the project is to promote the knowledge and use of technology for educational purposes, and we realized how much this act is important for us, our school and community. We had a chance to discuss and exchange ideas with someone who is different from us, and among other things, have fun in the process. We also comprehended those differences, and we had the opportunity to present Zavidovići and Bosnia and Herzegovina. I want to thank professor Sanela Ahmić who informed us, and this group that implemented the project. It was a great honor to have the opportunity to be part of it!”
