Labour rights in Serbia during the pandemic COVID-19

On 5 May, LDA Subotica, LDA CSS in cooperation with the Center for Democracy Foundation organized a webinar on topic Labour rights in Serbia during the COVID-19 pandemic. The webinar was organised as an online workshop for young people from Subotica and Knjaževac in order to familiarise them with their social and economics rights, but also to open a disscusion about the influence that the pandemic and current crisis  has had to the respect of labour rights.

The experts from Center for Democracy Foundation, Sarita Bradaš and Ivan Sekulović gave a detailed overview of the situation. Sarita presented the opportunities and quality of jobs in Serbia and compared that with the situation in EU. She also presented in which industries people work under their qualifications. Sarita spoke about the concept of decent work and its dimensions.

Ivan Sekulović focused on the position of workers during the pandemic and highlighted that the situation in the field of labour rights is even worse than before. He underlined the urgency of stoping the further erosion of the quality of labour rights. One of the important observations was the absence of clear instructions from Goverment of Serbia for organizing  remote work.
After the experts' presentation, there was a open debate where questions like health and safety at work, activities of inspections, the position of chronic patients and the position of the freelance industry after pandemic were discussed.

Ratification of the mentioned Convention in practice means that the state is obliged to ensure equal rights and opportunities for persons with disabilities to be included in all spheres of social life.
